More funding coming to North Okanagan athletic events

MLA Harwinder Sandhu said a provincial grant will support upcoming athletic events in Vernon and Lumby over the next year.

“Our region has become a true sports destination welcoming athletes, their families, and fans whose presence strengthens our tourism economy and local businesses,” Sandhu said. “These grants are a strategic investment to keep major events here at home, ensuring we continue to generate lasting economic and community benefits for years to come.”

The following athletic events are receiving funding through the provincial government’s Destination Events Program:

  • Crankworx SilverStar, August 2026 — $25,000
  • Vernon Winter Carnival, February 2027 — $19,000
  • Sovereign 2 SilverStar Ski Marathon, April 2027 — $14,000
  • ISU North American International Adult Competition, September 2026 — $11,000

The B.C. New Democratic government said it wants to support events that draw visitors and enhance community events.
