The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP reported increases in overall calls for service and Criminal Code offences during the first quarter of 2026, from January to March.
Supt. Blake MacLeod said the increase was driven largely by rises in property crime, while violent crime saw a modest overall decrease.
Targeted policing efforts resulted in multiple arrests, seizures and proactive enforcement actions focused on repeat and high-risk offenders.
In the first quarter, Vernon recorded 4,427 total calls for service, an increase of nearly 11 per cent from the same period in 2025. Police reported 1,647 Criminal Code offences, up 24.6 per cent from last year.
Property crime saw one of the largest increases, with 980 offences reported, including break and enter, theft, mischief, arson, fraud and possession of stolen property. That represented an increase of 31.7 per cent from 2025.
Traffic contacts were down 41.3 per cent, with a total of 405 violation tickets and written warnings issued during the quarter.
The report also listed RCMP priorities, including public safety, vulnerable persons, community outreach and policing excellence.
