Firearm found in truck occupied by impaired driver

A man has been issued a three-day driving prohibition after a firearm was found in the back of his truck, as well as blowing a “warn” on a roadside screening device last night in Lumby.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said they received a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at the intersection of Birch Rd and Mabel Lake Rd.

Police said they noticed what looked like the barrel of a long gun sticking out of the rear driver side window. A 12-gauge shotgun was safely secured by officers before the driver was woken up.

The RCMP added that the man showed signs of alcohol impairment and provided a breath sample that resulted in a “warn” on a roadside screening device.

In addition to potential firearms related offences, he was issued a three-day roadside prohibition and his uninsured vehicle was towed and impounded.

Police said he was released from custody pending further investigation.
