City of Vernon urging public to look out for one another during heat wave

With a heat warning in effect for the North Okanagan, the City of Vernon is urging residents and visitors to take precautions and make use of available indoor and outdoor spaces to stay cool.

Environment Canada issued a “yellow” heat warning for the North Okanagan yesterday as temperatures are expected to rise to the high thirties.

The City invited the public to Kal Tire Place, Vernon Museum and Archive, City Hall and the Okanagan Regional Library to cool down.

For outdoor relief, Lakeview and Lavington pools are open daily and provide a great place for children and families to cool off. Residents are also encouraged to enjoy Vernon’s beaches, parks and shaded green spaces while taking appropriate precautions.

The City advised people to drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activity and to never leave children or pets unattended in parked vehicles.
