Interior Health has issued a drug alert for Vernon for a substance sold as Percocet, or “Percs,” (oxycodone and acetaminophen) that contains high amounts of fentanyl or a fentanyl analog.
Officials said the tablets are counterfeit and sold as Percocet, which contains oxycodone and acetaminophen.
“Fentanyl is up to 75 times stronger than oxycodone,” IH said in the alert. “The quantity of fentanyl (or analog) in these tablets is unknown and can vary from one tablet to another.”
IH said using the counterfeit tablets is not recommended because of the heightened risk of overdose.
The tablets may appear white and marked with the letters “TEC.” IH said people should be aware of the risk of counterfeit tablets if they are not purchased from a pharmacy.
Drug checking is available in Vernon from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends at the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy.
IH said the alert remains in effect until Aug. 3, 2026.
