More residents allowed to return home as evacuation orders get downgraded

The Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) has downgraded an evacuation order to an alert for more residents in the North Okanagan.

Officials have been gradually downgrading evacuation orders to alerts as the Bradley Creek wildfire is now classified as being held and is not expected to grow.

In a statement, the band said residents on North Grandview, Chilhitzia, Range, O’Neil Road and Salmon River Bench, Round Lake, Emery Louis and Heywood-Armstrong roads are no longer under evacuation orders.

All properties in Lawrence Heights are also now under an evacuation alert and residents may return home.

Officials are reminding residents to proceed with caution because fire and smoke may have caused significant damage to properties.

Properties in the green area on the map may return home.
