No significant growth of the Bradley Creek Wildfire

The Bradley Creek wildfire burning near Vernon remains held at 2,649.5 hectares and has not grown, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

The wildfire service said in an update Wednesday, Aug. 12, that winds were expected to remain generally from the north or northeast throughout the day.

Smoke and visibility were expected to improve.

The wildfire service said suppression efforts have been highly effective in keeping fire behaviour at ranks one and two on both wildfires within the complex, indicating low to very low fire intensity.

Officials said 113 firefighters, seven helicopters and 25 pieces of heavy equipment were fighting the Bradley Creek Complex.

“A risk of localized thunderstorms is expected to develop this afternoon and continue into the evening,” the BCWFS said. “Thunderstorms may produce strong, gusty winds, with gusts potentially reaching 60 km/h.”

Cool conditions were expected heading into the weekend.

Two evacuation alerts and two evacuation orders remained in effect.
