Council to receive Active Living Centre update as project reaches major milestone

Vernon’s new Active Living Centre is entering the final stages of construction as the aquatic facility prepares for commissioning and systems testing.

Vernon city council will receive an update on the project Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The City of Vernon said the facility is expected to open in late 2026.

The next phase of construction will include filling the centre’s pools so crews can test and commission the aquatic mechanical, filtration and air-handling systems.

The city said the testing is required to ensure the systems are operating safely and efficiently.

“This work is also essential before inspection and approval by Interior Health, a key requirement for obtaining an operating permit, opening the facility and welcoming the public,” the statement said.

The city said it has planned the work in co-ordination with the Regional District of North Okanagan, which has authorized the city to begin filling the pools.

Pool filling is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 14, when irrigation demand is expected to decrease across the region.

Residents can listen to the Sept. 8 council meeting for more information about the project. The meeting will also be livestreamed and available online afterward.

The meeting will be livestreamed and available online following the meeting. For more information, visit the City’s Council Meetings page or vernon.ca/alc.
