Canada’s first complete Recapitulation series by Sveva Caetani held in Coldstream

The Caetani Centre will present Recapitulation Reunited, a Sveva Caetani exhibition at the Coldstream Community Hall, marking the first time the complete Recapitulation series has been exhibited in Canada.

The series is returning to the Okanagan, where the works were created. In a statement, the Caetani Centre said the opportunity to experience the exhibit is one of the most significant North Okanagan cultural events in 2026.

Recapitulation was created between 1978 and 1989, unfolding 47 interconnected scenes through 60 detail watercolours. It is a visual autobiography, tracing Caetani’s journey from childhood in Europe, her family’s immigration to Canada and her emergence as an artist in Vernon.

The full series was presented at MAXXI — National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome and received international acclaim.

“Exhibitions rarely travel internationally and even more rarely return home in full. For a week in April, the Okanagan becomes the only place in Canada where audiences can experience the full Recapitulation series,” read their statement.

By presenting the series in its entirety, the Caetani Centre affirms its commitment to preserving the work of the Italian-Canadian artist in the Okanagan.

From April 3 to April 11, locals and visitors are invited to the Coldstream Community Hall to see the exhibit, which will run from noon to 4 p.m.
