More properties on evacuation order in Electoral Area B downgraded for Bradley Creek Wildfire

The evacuation order issued for some properties west of Irish Creek Road in the Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Area B due to the Bradley Creek FSR Wildfire has now been rescinded and downgraded to an alert.

In an update by the RDNO at 9:10 p.m. on Aug. 10, officials listed the following properties that are now on alert status rather than an order.

Residents living at 424, 398, 396, 306, 304, 300, 280, 257 Irish Creek Road and 59 Beatrice Road may now return home.

Officials said residents must remain ready to leave their homes on short notice if fire conditions change.

The RDNO is reminding residents to take extra precautions when returning to their properties which includes checking for hazards such as downed power lines, gas smells or unstable debris.

Residents are advised to enter cautiously with the main power turned off, avoid using their sewage system until it is confirmed safe and throw out any spoiled refrigerated food or thawed frozen food.

If there is any food that was exposed to heat or smoke, except undamaged canned good in which case should be washed and disinfected before use, should be discarded.

The RDNO encouraged residents to seek help with mental or psychological recovery.

The BC Mental Health Support Line is open 24 hours a day at 310-6789.

“We also ask residents returning home to be mindful of their neighbours,” the RDNO said. “Please respect private property, avoid entering or photographing damaged properties that are not your own and give affected families the privacy and space they need.”

Residents are urged to stay informed, especially if an evacuation order needs to be re-issued.
