Campfire ban to be lifted in Enderby tomorrow

The campfire ban in Enderby will be lifted at noon Thursday as cooler temperatures and expected precipitation reduce the fire hazard.

The City of Enderby said the change takes effect Sept. 3, in line with the BC Wildfire Service lifting its Category 1 campfire prohibition across the Kamloops Fire Centre.

“The campfire ban is being lifted due to a reduction to the fire hazard level associated with forthcoming precipitation and seasonal temperature changes,” Enderby and District Fire Department Chief Bastiaansen said. “However, I urge continued vigilance by the public. Never leave a campfire unattended and always follow safety guidelines and local regulations to reduce the risk.”

The change applies to the City of Enderby and the Shuswap River Fire Protection District. Unprotected areas of Area F of the Regional District of North Okanagan remain subject to Kamloops Fire Centre regulations.

Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited.

Fireworks, binary exploding targets, air curtain burners and burn barrels or burn cages also remain prohibited, except when a burn barrel or cage is used for a Category 1 campfire as defined under the Wildfire Regulation.

The city said residents must also follow local regulations governing campfires and similar activities.
